MASERU- Lioli FC head coach Motheo Mohapi says he has been forced to stop his plans for the team because the supporters are unhappy with him.
Speaking after Lioli FC and LCS FC match, Coach Mohapi said he had a program to help Lioli FC grow. His plans included bringing in young players and changing the team’s playing style to carpet football. However, he feels the fans no longer want him at the club.
“There was a program I had drawn, which included introducing new talent and transitioning to carpet football, but now I have to cancel everything because it looks like Lioli supporters no longer want me,” he said.
The coach explained that last season was phase one of his program. During that time, the team focused on protecting Lioli’s image. This season, phase two started, which focused on giving young players a chance and changing the team’s style of play.
“We are trying to play with youngsters. I know fans are not happy with our style of play, but we are slowly moving to carpet football,” he said.
Coach Mohapi also talked about the need to replace players who are aging like Jerry, who can no longer play for long periods. He praised young players like Tholang and Sechaba who joined Lioli FC after Mohapi convinced him not to join Matlama because of the relationship he has with Lioli Fc.
Despite his efforts, the coach feels the lack of support from fans is making it hard to continue with his program.
