Teboho Letuka made a remarkable debut for Lioli FC, keeping a clean sheet in their 2-0 victory over Bantu FC in a Vodacom Premier League match at Bambatha. Swithbert Kum scored both goals for the visiting team, securing an impressive win.
Speaking after the match, Letuka shared his excitement about making his first appearance of the season, revealing that he was informed earlier in the week about his inclusion in the starting lineup.
“I was told at the beginning of the week that I would play this game, and that gave me time to prepare and work on myself,” Letuka said.
Letuka admitted he was nervous, as he is usually the third-choice goalkeeper and hadn’t even been making the bench in previous matches.
“I was scared because I hadn’t even been on the bench in past games. To go from the stands to the starting line-up was a big step, but I’m glad I performed well,” he said.
The goalkeeper expressed gratitude to Lioli FC head coach Motheo Mohapi for trusting him with this opportunity.
“I want to thank the coach for giving me the chance to represent Lioli FC. Not everyone gets such opportunities. I also thank God for my talent,” he added.
Letuka acknowledged the challenge of competing with experienced goalkeepers, such as William Huni, the reigning Goalkeeper of the Season. However, he expressed satisfaction with his performance, which he believes will boost his confidence.
“I was the first-choice goalkeeper at Maroala, but at Lioli, you have someone like William Huni. I’m not saying I want to be the first choice, but I’m happy I showed the supporters that I’m here to contribute,” he said.
Letuka joined Lioli FC ahead of the 2024/2025 season from Maroala FC. His debut against one of the league’s top teams showcased his talent, as he made crucial saves to keep Lioli FC in the game.
